About Us!

Spokane Urban Ministries is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. S.U.M. began in 2007 as a collaboration between 4 local churches and Salem Arms. The churches include Grace Lutheran, St. Paul Lutheran, Salem Lutheran and Emmanuel Lutheran. Initially, these groups met to review the feasibility of developing affordable housing, above and beyond the units then owned by Salem Arms and Salem Lutheran Church. They reviewed the housing needs throughout Spokane with a focus on the West Central neighborhood. To better serve the needs of low-income individuals and families, the group formed a new non-profit, Spokane Urban Ministries.

S.U.M.'s mission is to, "develop affordable housing and support services". Since it's founding S.U.M. has been working on the design, funding and construction of "Walnut Corners", it's first affordable housing development. For more information on "Walnut Corners" click the link above.
